Product Description
Mention hardwood floors and watch a homebuyer’s eyes light up. What makes wood floors so desirable? Hardwood floors are unmatched for their beauty, durability, and ease of maintenance, so it’s no surprise that the demand for hardwood has always been strong. In recent years that demand has been fueled by the availability of more types of wood, including exotic species such as Brazilian cherry, as well as engineered woods. This professional-level resource covers every aspect of installing residential wood flooring – from estimating and preparing the job site, through sanding and finishing, to repairs and maintenance. Hardwood floor expert Charles Peterson covers it all in this indispensable guide to the most popular flooring choice around.

After reading "Wood Flooring" by Charles Peterson I have one word to describe it "WOW".
I am in the wood flooring industry in both sales and distribution and found this book to be extremly helpful and comprehensive. Very easy to understand and follow, even for those not too familiar with the industry. Lots of great pictures and diagrams to go with this easy read. A great tool for anyone interested in wood flooring.
Premium guide book to wood flooring January 26, 2010 david collins (old lyme, ct United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is simply the best wood flooring book available on the market. List price is $45 and it is well (well!) worth the price. Check out the competition, one is $30 with just 67 (not very well composed) pages. Another is better deal at $20 and has 130 pretty well composed pages. Now look inside this book, 330 absolutely beautifully composed pages, excellent photos and write-ups, the book itself top shelf (paper, printing, binding) quality. Buy this book, take it in your hands, open it up, and you will smile and say to yourself: "yes, this is the book that I wanted".
Finally, a book with all the answers! January 26, 2010 M. Keith (CA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been in the flooring coating industry for over twenty years. Wood Floors by Charles Peterson is the first professional level book on wood flooring I have seen. This book is by far the most thorough in the industry. The quality of the photo's and illustrations are outstanding. The book is a combination of a college text book and a coffee table book. I recommend it anyone seeking knowledge on wood flooring.

I'm a wood flooring contractor. I feel this book is the best resource available for anyone in the business - even the most experienced. I have a couple of DIY friends who are about to install a wood floor in their home. I loaned them my copy of "Wood Flooring" as everything they need to know is clearly spelled out in the book. Hopefully it will help keep them out of trouble, and me out of hot water, as they haven't listened to my advice so far.

This one you've gotta have! January 28, 2010 js (cape cod, ma) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
A Complete Guide to ...Wood Flooring by Charles Peterson is an amazing book, a must-own for anyone who loves working with wood floors. While this book is precisely what it promises, an exhaustive self-help guide, with many pictures of every step needed, from basic floor prep to the installation of intricate floor patterns, its main joy for me was the extensive use of photos of the fabulous art Mr. Peterson creates in floors. Not since the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain have I seen such an array of designs and range of wood. He even discusses dying wood to make colored wood designs! On the more practical end, he covers the benefits of a wide range of woods, and ends the book with an extensive section on how to repair problems in existing wood floors. This book was not assembled by an academic, or even by an editor-in-chief, but by a master craftsman who shares his personal, often innovative, tips for being successful. And it is still amazingly readable. Incidentally, he (and his `Floor of the Year') were featured on the back cover of Fine Woodworking, March 2010
